Is OvaGold a Prenatal Vitamin?

OvaGold is not a prenatal vitamin. Well… note over.

Kidding!

We are going to spell out for you:

what OvaGold is

who it is for

the key ingredients inside

and most importantly, how OvaGold can be a key player in your reproductive and prepconception cheer squad!

No shade to prenatal multivitamins though, we heart those too. In fact, we’ll also explain the important role of prenatal vitamins in pre-pregnancy and how OvaGold  + your prenatal are the perfect pair for your prepconception (that’s pre-conception prep if you’re new here!)

What Is OvaGold?

OvaGold is a 5-in-one antioxidant and reproductive health support supplement designed by fertility nutrition experts. OvaGold contains co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10), alpha lipoic acid (ALA), vitamin C & vitamin E alongside the precursor to NAD+ - nicotinamide riboside, to wrap your eggs up in as much goodness as possible.

OvaGold is designed to help you nail your prepconception in just 2 capsules per day.

Finally! It’s time to say goodbye to the handful of 8+ capsules per day - be honest, do you remember to take them ALL? There’s an easier way to help you meet therapeutic amounts of these researched antioxidants for your fertility health!

Who Is OvaGold For?

OvaGold is for women or people born with ovaries who want to nail their prepconception.

OvaGold is specifically designed for:

  • Preparing to try to conceive in the next 6 months
  • Those who have been trying to conceive for a while and want to give their eggs their very best shot!
  • Preparing for fertility treatments like ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilisation (IVF)
  • Proactive egg freezers who want to preserve the best quality eggs possible for their future selves
What Ingredients Are Inside OvaGold?

Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) - the multitasker

Co-enzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is the ultimate multitasking antioxidant! As we age, CoQ10 levels in our body decline. Ovagold replaces the CoQ10 in our bodies at therapeutic levels of 300 mg per day.

CoQ10 and egg quality - it’s a love story, baby just say yes.

Why the multitasking award? Well, CoQ10 both helps your cells produce energy and keeps oxidative stress at bay (think of oxidative stress as kind of like cellular ‘rust’).

Research highlights that CoQ10 supplementation, especially for women aged over 35, those who have low ovarian reserve or pcos can help to enhance fertility outcomes and embryo quality.

Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride (NRC) - the time machine

Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride (NRC) is the precursor to NAD+ which just sounds like a lot of chemistry right now. BUT, let us break this down. NRC is the next generation version of vitamin B3 that has been shown to improve energy production inside our cells (NAD+ being critical in the literal production of energy!), and early science is pointing to an improvement in ovarian health in older ovaries of mice and improved fertility outcomes (Bertoldo et al., 2020; Li et al., 2024).

Research suggests a dosage of 300 mg per day of NRC to support NAD+ production and give that precious egg as much energy as it needs to thrive! You’ll find precisely 300 mg in each serve of OvaGold.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) - the team player

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is the antioxidant that wants to be friends with everyone. A strong team member in its own right, ALA also helps to recycle other antioxidants and vitamins in your body, namely vitamin C & E.

Research suggests ALA supplemented at 400 mg per day has been linked to optimised egg health & development (Di Tucci et al., 2021; He et al., 2021). And you guessed it, is the precise dosage you’ll find inside OvaGold.

Here at arxi, we’re big believers in following where the science leads us, and delivering next-level quality supplements to help support your family from day zero.

Vitamin E - the bodyguard

Vitamin E is a two-fer - a vitamin AND an antioxidant, found in foods with healthy fats like sesame seeds, olives, olive oil, almonds and peanut butter. Its role in OvaGold is to support ALA and CoQ10 but it also has its own independent benefits to your fertility health too.

Vitamin E helps to protect cells (including your eggs!) from oxidative stress and it also does cool things like support circulation, keeping things smooth and flowing (Chen et al., 2020).

Research has shown that women with higher levels of Vitamin E have better ovarian health and improved chances of conception - naturally, vitamin E had to feature inside OvaGold to optimise your reproductive health (Bahadori et al., 2017).

Vitamin C - the quietly famous one

Vitamin C might be the most humble of the ingredients found inside OvaGold. You know it exists, heck maybe you just about bathe in it every time you feel a cold coming on, but vitamin C is SO much more than that.

The immune-supporting benefits are definitely a critical part of your preconception and reproductive health. However, vitamin C itself can help support your eggs too, because, you guessed it, vitamin C is also an antioxidant!

Higher intakes of vitamin C can impact the amount of vitamin C in your follicular fluid (that’s the fluid ‘home’ your eggs live in), which may improve the development and quality of your eggs and embryos (Lu et al., 2018; Ruder et al., 2014; Amini et al., 2021).

How Does OvaGold Help Support Reproductive Health?

Thanks to the exceptional team of ingredients inside OvaGold - CoQ10, NRC, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin E & Vitamin C, combined can help support your reproductive health and may translate into enhanced fertility outcomes too.

We like to call our line up, the Avengers, because they’re better together. Their powers combined are better than their individual talents, and all in just 2 capsules per day.

OvaGold is a must-have in your prepconception routine for ideally 3 months, even better is 6 months, for those nutrients to accumulate inside the follicular fluid of the egg you’ll either ovulate or have removed by your fertility specialist in 90-120 days time.

What Is A Prenatal Multivitamin?

A prenatal multivitamin is a must-have multi-vitamin and multi-mineral supplement designed to help you meet the future demands of your pregnancy for critical nutrients.

Prenatal multivitamins should be taken daily for 1-3 months before pregnancy, during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.

Who Needs a Prenatal Multivitamin?

Everyone who hopes to become pregnant should take a prenatal multivitamin 1-3 months prior to actively trying to conceive. This should continue into pregnancy and post-partum, if breastfeeding.

Even if you have an excellent diet, you should still take a prenatal multivitamin to reduce the risk of developing neural tube defects such as spina bifida in your future baby.

What Ingredients Are Inside a Prenatal Multivitamin?

Ingredients inside prenatal multivitamins vary depending on where it has been manufactured and the guidelines they’re trying to meet. Listen, we don’t know why people in Australia vs USA of the same age and life stage would need fundamentally different levels of nutrients, but hey, we’ll leave that to the public health gurus!

Thankfully, here in Australia, we have plenty of safeguards for prenatal vitamins on the market.

All prenatal multivitamins in Australia must contain at least 400 mcg folic acid and 150 mcg iodine, other nutrients may be present too (but varies a lot from brand-to-brand!).

Common vitamins you’ll find in a prenatal include:

  • B vitamins: Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 & B12
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Zinc
  • Iron
  • Selenium
  • Choline
  • Omega-3s

Sometimes, the nutrients are present in very small amounts, and other times it will contain significant amounts that can correct nutrient deficiencies. The variability is huge, and there’s an abundance of options too, it is best to chat to your individual health care provider about what prenatal multivitamin might be right for you!

How Does a Prenatal Multivitamin Support Reproductive Health & Fertility?

A prenatal multivitamin is essentially designed to support a healthy pregnancy, ensure you aren’t behind the eight ball on any critical nutrients that could place you or your baby at risk of any nasty events in pregnancy or beyond!

There is some research that shows that people that take a folate containing supplement had a better chance of having a healthy pregnancy (Chavarro et al., 2016). We aren’t too sure why that is just yet, but it’s an interesting point to note nonetheless.

For some people, prenatal multivitamins can improve your nutrient status of critical vitamins and minerals like vitamin D, which if low, may negatively impact your fertility health too (Meng et al., 2023).

How Is OvaGold Different From a Prenatal Vitamin?

OvaGold is not a prenatal vitamin. It is a companion to your prenatal vitamin, that’s right, at arxi we designed OvaGold to pair perfectly with your prenatal vitamin to help you nail your prepconception.

OvaGold is designed to support reproductive health before baby, take it daily for ideally 3 months prior to conception. Once pregnant, you can discontinue OvaGold.

Prenatal multivitamins are designed to prepare you nutritionally and support your pregnancy health, take it daily for ideally 3 months prior to conception, continue into pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding (RANZCOG) .

There is little to no significant overlap between the ingredients found in OvaGold and a prenatal multivitamin.

Remember, OvaGold is a 5-in-one powerhouse supplement packed with antioxidants - CoQ10, ALA, vitamin E & vitamin C alongside NRC (a precursor to NAD+) designed to support you preconceptionally. Your prenatal multivitamin won’t contain CoQ10, ALA or NRC, and most Australian prenatal multivitamins contain very small amounts of Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

So, you can rest assured that you’re not double dipping, or taking too much of the same nutrients across different products!

Can I Take OvaGold At The Same Time As A Prenatal Vitamin?

Yes! And you definitely should take OvaGold alongside your prenatal vitamin every day before you conceive or undergo fertility treatments like IUI, IVF or egg freezing.

There are no known interactions between the nutrients found inside OvaGold and the nutrients commonly found inside a prenatal multivitamin, meaning it is safe to take OvaGold at the same time as a prenatal multivitamin in your prepconception window.

We’ve intentionally designed OvaGold to slot in perfectly just like the much-awaited missing puzzle piece of your fertility supplement routine. No double dips, and maximum value and impact to your reproductive health, partnered perfectly with your prenatal multivitamin of choice.

Most prenatal vitamins that are 1-2 capsules per day are recommended to be taken in the morning after food (always follow the instructions on the packaging). OvaGold is designed to deliver what 8 (!!!) capsules per day was doing before in just 2 capsules per day, 1 capsule after breakfast and 1 capsule after lunch.

We recommend avoiding taking OvaGold at night time because of the energy supporting nutrients that may interfere with your precious sleep - also important for your fertility health!

Does OvaGold Contain Any Nutrients Found In a Prenatal Vitamin?

Nope!

Well, we can’t speak for the hundreds (or maybe thousands) or prenatal multivitamins out there, we’ve audited the most commonly recommended prenatal vitamins here in Australia, and safe to say, none of them are pulling their weight for the nutrients found in OvaGold like CoQ10, vitamin E, vitamin C, NRC, Alpha Lipoic Acid.

You may find small amounts of water-soluble vitamin, vitamin C in prenatal multivitamins, as well as small amounts of vitamin E, however, we’ve done the maths and it still falls well within a safe range for daily use.
As always, consult with your health care provider before adding any new supplements into your routine.

So, Is OvaGold The Same As A Prenatal Vitamin?

Nope! OvaGold is very different from your prenatal multivitamin, and their roles are different too!

But a reproductive health support supplement, like OvaGold, is arguably equally important to help support your family’s health from day zero.
